A madman kills three gendarmes and injures a fourth in the Puy-de-Dôme

Three gendarmes were killed and a fourth injured by a madman in an isolated hamlet near Saint-Just (Puy-de-Dôme) on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, AFP learned from corroborating sources.

The soldiers, who belonged to Ambert's company, were fatally shot by a 48-year-old man as they tried to rescue a woman who had taken refuge on the roof of a house.

The GIGN is still on site this Wednesday morning.

Heavy goods vehicles will be able to leave the UK with a negative Covid test

London and Paris found an agreement on Tuesday to end the crisis by allowing truck drivers stranded in the United Kingdom due to the spread of a new strain of coronavirus to leave the country with a rapid Covid test.

The port of Dover announced its reopening at 23 hours GMT.

With this agreement recedes the threat of shortages after the blockage in England of thousands of trucks following France's decision to suspend accompanied freight transport, on which the United Kingdom is very dependent.

Aldi to close 31 Leader Price stores

The German distribution group Aldi has announced the closure of 31 stores under its Leader Price banner but has promised to reclassify their 240 employees, we learned from CGT Commerce on Tuesday.

"The objective is to bring together our network of Aldi stores in France and that of Leader Price, which are geographically very complementary", for its part justified the management.

Stores, "for reasons of competition or too close to our network, will not be converted and will be sold", however admitted Aldi, without specifying the number of sites concerned.
