The number of reported deaths related to the coronavirus has hit a new high.
Within a day, the German health authorities transmitted
962 new deaths to
the
Robert Koch Institute
(RKI), according to the RKI figures from Wednesday morning.
In addition, 24,740 new infections were reported.
Last Wednesday (December 16), 27,728 new infections and the previous high of 952 deaths were recorded.
The highest value with

fell slightly to 195.1 by Wednesday.
The day before, a high of 197.6 had been reached.
Saxony achieved by far the highest value: there the seven-day incidence is 414.1, more than twice as high as the national average.
Thuringia follows with a value of 319.6.
The lowest value is recorded in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with 96.3.
The number of deaths had recently tended to go up, which was expected after the steep increase in new infections.
The total number of people who died with or involving a documented Sars-CoV-2 infection rose to 27,968 as of Wednesday.

The RKI has counted
1,554,920
detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany
since the beginning of the pandemic
(as of December 23, 12 a.m.).
It is estimated that around 1,160,100 people have now recovered.
The nationwide
seven-day R-value
was according to the RKI situation report from Tuesday evening at 0.95 (previous day: 0.98).
This means that 100 infected people infect 95 more people.
The value represents the occurrence of the infection eight to 16 days ago.
If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.
776 new corona cases in Schleswig-Holstein
In
Schleswig-Holstein
, more new corona infections were reported within one day than ever before - and the seven-day incidence is now over 100. According to the state government on Tuesday evening,

However, on Tuesday there had been late registrations from the Pinneberg district for the past few days, as it became known on Wednesday.
In Pinneberg alone, this affected 188 new infections from Saturday to Monday.
According to the state government, 518 cases were reported nationwide for Tuesday.
