"I have been home for eight months now. I am sick and I can't even get a health certificate. I can't find a job in Minquan County. I have to pay for board and lodging. My family owes nearly 300,000 in debt." Wu Chunhong The "Judicial Assistance Application" states that since his acquittal, the family’s old house cannot be lived in. It is a dilapidated house. On December 22, Wu Chunhong’s daughter, Wu Lili, told The Paper that her father had been seeing a doctor since he was released from prison. “First, there was a problem with his eyes, and then a skin disease. He has been getting injections and spent a lot of money.”

At present, the family is supported by her and mother, and life is difficult.

The Paper previously reported that on June 2, Wu Chunhong, who was acquitted after being detained for more than 5,600 days, applied for state compensation to the Henan High Court for a total of 18.72 million yuan.

Two months later, the Higher People's Court of Henan Province made a national compensation decision and decided to compensate more than 2.62 million yuan.

On August 18, Wu Chunhong filed an application for reconsideration of state compensation to the Supreme Law and was accepted.

On the morning of October 29th, the Sixth Court of the Supreme Court opened a court session to hear the national compensation case. The trial lasted nearly two hours without a verdict in court.

On November 15, 2004, a poisoning case occurred in Zhougang Village, Minquan County, Shangqiu, Henan Province. Two children were poisoned by Tetramine, one death and the other were injured.

Wu Chunhong was identified as a suspect for "poisoning revenge" for trivial matters.

From June 23, 2005 to October 30, 2007, the Shangqiu City Intermediate People's Court sentenced Wu Chunhong to death with reprieve for intentional homicide three times, but the Henan Provincial Higher People's Court remanded him for retrial on the grounds of "unclear facts."

Later, the Shangqiu City Intermediate Court held the fourth court and again sentenced Wu Chunhong to life imprisonment for intentional homicide.

After Wu Chunhong filed an appeal, the Henan Higher People's Court ruled to reject the appeal and uphold the original verdict.

In September 2018, the Supreme Law made a retrial decision, deeming that Wu Chunhong’s evidence for the crime of intentional homicide was untrue and insufficient, and ordered the Henan High Court to conduct a retrial.

On April 1, 2020, the Henan High Court revoked the previous criminal ruling of the court and the previous criminal incidental civil judgment of the Intermediate People's Court of Shangqiu City, Henan Province; Wu Chunhong was acquitted and released in court.
