Before the Christmas holidays, the Rhineland-Palatinate Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) once again urged the population to observe the safety and hygiene rules in the corona crisis.

"Our medical measures cannot prevent people from becoming infected and maybe seriously ill, so I appeal again to each and every one of them over Christmas and New Year's Eve to consistently adhere to the AHA rules and reduce contact with others to the bare minimum," it said in a message from Dreyer and Health Minister Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler (SPD).

"Please be careful not to give Corona to your loved ones."

Rhineland-Palatinate has set up a crisis unit to support nursing and old people's homes in the corona pandemic.

Dreyer explained that the unit determines the needs of the 550 inpatient elderly care facilities and organizes help.

For example, employees of aid organizations could be used to test residents, employees and visitors.

This should happen before Christmas.

In addition, helpers are available, for example, to distribute food or take care of them.
