  • With a careful staging, new characters, "twists" and intense action scenes, Jon Favreau's fiction has gone into hyperspace mode.

  • Why can we ensure that the Force is alongside this second season?

    Our questions and our theories.

An epic finale!

While the final chapter of season 2 of

The Mandalorian

was posted online this Friday on Disney +, the time has come to take stock.

After eight first chapters which allowed to set the scene and the protagonists of the series, Mando and Baby Yoda went into hyperspace speed for this season 2. Jon Favreau and his teams managed the feat of satisfying the fans of the first hour and to weave an intrigue which allows to embark new ones.

The Mandalorian

is the best thing that has happened to the

Star Wars

saga

since the first trilogy.

Why can we ensure that the Force is alongside this second season?

An ode to genre cinema

Season 2 of

The Mandalorian

has been able to renew itself aesthetically and narratively with each chapter by multiplying the winks and references to genre cinema: the western with the episode worn by Timothy Olyphant, the horror with the giant spiders of the second episode, the samurai movie with the episode of Asokha Tano.

A larger galaxy of characters

The duo formed by Mando and Baby Yoda is now surrounded by a family that has grown considerably thanks to the two Mandalorians Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sakhoff) and Koska Reeves (Mercedes Vardano), to the clone Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and his sidekick Fennec Shand (Ming-Na), to the Jedi Asokha Tano (Rosario Dawson).

With Cara Dune (Gina Carano),

The Mandalorian

now has five strong heroines.

The super villain Moff Gideon has meanwhile gained in complexity and ferocity.

The action has intensified considerably.

A connection to the whole extended universe

Jon Favreau's fiction has woven its own history while connecting to the extended universe of the Star Wars saga.

The series has multiplied the references to the original trilogy by the surprise return of Boba Fett, the appearances of the Jawas and the Sandmen, to the animated series with the heroines Ahsoka Tano and Bo-Katan Kryze, the mention to Admiral Thrawn, but also to novels, video games and comics with the exploration of mythology and Mandalorian history.

[SPOILERS WARNING ON EPISODE 8 OF SEASON 2]

A spectacular finale

Unsurprisingly, after having rounded up his troops, Din Djarin went to save L'Enfant.

They stormed Moff Gideon's Imperial Cruiser.

Mando dueled Moff Gideon and his Dark Saber.

He successfully rescued Baby Yoda and delivered the super villain to Bo-Katan.

But Moff Gideon (decidedly a villain full of resources) has set a trap for Mando: he cannot give Bo-Katan his black saber without going through the duel box!

Our heroes almost went there surrounded by an army of Dark Troopers… And Jon Favreau concluded his season with a nice surprise to the fans of the saga: a Jedi came to save them and not just anyone, it is downright the young Luke Skywalker who came to the rescue, along with his trusty R2-D2, aboard his X-Wing.

It's Mark Hamill reprising his role (with a good CGI facelift), while Max Lloyd Jonesi serves as the body liner.

A cameo that really pleased the fans.

40 years separate these two scenes on our screens.

Thanks for the progress. # TheMandalorian pic.twitter.com/DUeiynFeRr

A fiction that makes children

The universe of

Star Wars

 in general and

The Mandalorian

in particular will grow richer.

Disney has announced no less than 10

Star Wars

series

, two of which will take place in the same time frame as

The Mandalorian

 :

Ahsoka

, a series centered on Ahsoka Tano and carried by Rosario Dawson, where we should follow the Jedi in her quest for Ezra Bridger (

Star Wars Rebels

), and another titled,

Rangers of the New Republic.

The finale of

The Mandalorian

reserved another surprise for fans of the saga.

In a post-credits scene, we find ourselves in Jabba the Hutt's lair as Bib Fortuna, his right-hand man took power after his death in Episode VI… Boba Fett arrives and kills him, taking his place on the throne.

A fiction that provides some answers

Season 2 has been able to provide some answers to its fans.

We know a little more about the story of Baby Yoda.

We now know that the adorable little being is called Grogu, as revealed by Ahsoka Tano in the thirteenth chapter of the series.

He began his training in a Jedi temple located on the planet Coruscant.

We then do not know what exactly happened to him: how did he survive Order 66?

How and for what purpose does Moff Gideon use his blood?

Grogu is endowed with impressive powers, placed on the Stone of Destiny, which Path will he choose?

A fiction that raises many questions and theories

Will he sink to the dark side of the force?

We know that Luke is not very good at guiding his padawans in the right way (he failed with his own nephew Ben Solo).

This Child, who appears innocent and benevolent, is capable of violence as when he uses, in chapter VII, the Force to strangle Cara Dune when she wrestles with Mando.

We also know that he has trouble resisting his impulses (thought for the poor eggs of the Lady Frog and the blue macaroons stolen from school…).

He has the power to heal, is he like Kylo Ren and Rey part of a Force Dyad?

Season 2 which ends with the heartbreaking farewell between Mando and Baby Yoda, and leaves many questions unanswered.

Will Mando face Bo-Katan?

Now that he's in possession of the Black Lightsaber, is his place on Mandalore?

Are we going to learn more about Yoda and Grogu's species?

But what does Moff Gideon do with the Blood of the Child?

Are we going to find out more about Palpatine's return?

On the appearance of the First Order?

Will we see other characters from the saga like Han Solo and Chewbacca or animated series like Grand Admiral Thrawn or Ezra Bridger?

Is the character of Cara Dune going to matter next season despite the controversy surrounding Gina Carano's tweets?

And especially when will we see the duo formed by Mando and L'Enfant Reunie again?
