A meeting was held in Tokai Village, Ibaraki Prefecture, where the only nuclear power plant in the Tokyo metropolitan area, the Tokai No. 2 Nuclear Power Plant, is located, where randomly selected residents exchange opinions on the nuclear power plant.

At the Tokai No. 2 nuclear power plant, the operator, Japan Atomic Power Company, is aiming to restart, but Tokai-mura, the local government, wants to decide whether or not to accept the restart after hearing the residents' intentions.

On the 19th, as one of the processes, a meeting was held in which 26 randomly selected residents participated and exchanged opinions on the nuclear power plant.

At the meeting, village officials first explained about the current state of the nuclear power plant, and that earthquake and tsunami countermeasures are currently underway based on the new regulatory standards established after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident.

After that, the participants exchanged opinions, saying that "it should be restarted from the aspect of employment", "I am worried about restarting now that there was an accident in Fukushima", and "I thought about the nuclear power plant in the first place. There was also an opinion such as "No."

The village will hold four more meetings with the same participants to discuss questions and issues regarding the nuclear power plant.

A female participant in her 50s who said her husband worked for a company related to nuclear power plants said, "It was natural that there was a nuclear power plant, and I had no particular thoughts about it. I was able to hear various thoughts. I'm glad. "
