The head of economic management, Lars Feld, has spoken out against expanding the corona aid for retailers and restaurateurs.

"The lockdown is bitter for the trade, but there shouldn't be more than the bridging aid," said Feld of the "Rheinische Post".

In contrast to many services, sales can "take place online or can be made up for." To support retailers, consumers can give away vouchers.

Some restaurateurs even did "better business than a year ago," said Feld, with a view to federal compensation and possible out-of-home sales.

"It is good that the state will return to bridging aid in 2021 and will only reimburse part of the fixed costs," emphasized the chairman of the Advisory Council on the assessment of macroeconomic development.

From the point of view of the economy, the effect of the VAT cut has so far been "limited".

Some supermarkets have passed them on to consumers in full, "others only partially, restaurants usually not at all," Feld said of the newspaper.

"The state can relieve companies and consumers more effectively if it lowers the green electricity surcharge and the electricity tax."
