Guest of "Without appointment" on Friday, the dietitian-nutritionist Maxime Mességué presented his original method for losing weight: the "one day detox".

The idea is to devote a single day in the week to a diet that is as low in calories as possible, to avoid the frustration generated by overly restrictive diets.

What if we changed the way he conceived diets to lose weight?

While our efforts to lose weight are often done by means of drastic restrictions, which can lead to frustration, even more if they are not followed by effects, the dietitian-nutritionist Maxime Mességué proposes a less restrictive method: the "one day detox".

Objective: devote a single day in his week to a significant calorie restriction.

What is the advantage of this method?

"More than a diet, it's a real art of living", assures Maxime Mességué, recalling the main rule of this very particular diet: "Instead of having a restriction all week and having fun on weekends. end, let's take things backwards: one day when we are careful, and the rest of the time, we eat normally while having fun ".

For this famous detox day, it is possible to fast for the most motivated, but the essential, recalls Maxime Mességué, "is to make a significant calorie restriction".

Of course, the absence of restrictions the rest of the week should not be an open door to all overeating.

"It is certain that if we eat anything all week, it will not work", specifies the nutritionist.

"The key is to have a balanced, varied diet, but without restrictions."

Advising to stick to one day per week, with the same day each time, Maxime Mességué points out that such a regime applied for a year, "that's 52 days, or almost two months".

And for what result?

"It depends on the person, but you can lose, for example, 100 grams per week, and that makes 5 kilos in a year", he answers.

Which foods to favor?

Once the decision has been taken to devote one day per week to this diet, it remains to know how to organize your nutrition.

For breakfast, Maxime Mességué, for example, offers dried oleaginous fruits, rich in proteins and fats, and "which will bring satiety" to last all morning.

At lunch, if you are a vegetarian, you can choose "to cook tofu, with vegetables such as lentils", for example, the most important being not to prepare your dish with a sweet or salty sauce.

Meat and fish are of course allowed, but be careful to choose!

The specialist thus recommends favoring lean meats "low in energy, with little fat inside, but rich in protein", instead of cold meats.

On the menu, therefore, chicken, turkey, rabbit, and from time to time a lean red meat such as a 5% minced steak or a flank steak.

For fish, we can eat white or fatty fish.

The main thing is to avoid frozen or canned fish, which are often higher in salt.

And which ones to ban?

In fact, the key to this "one day detox" is to ban "all very industrialized, very processed things", indicates Maxime Mésségué.

Because often mistakes start with good intentions.

"We could say to ourselves: 'I'm going to take a vegetable soup, but from the store. But there will be a lot of additives or a lot of salt", explains the nutritionist.

"You have to make the soup yourself."

It is also advisable to avoid dairy products.
