In times of crisis, luxury watches seem more popular than ever.

When the first lockdown was decided in March of this year, the digital platform Chrono24 initially recorded sales losses of 20 percent.

After a few weeks, however, the numbers rose again and have since been stable at around 13 percent above the level before the pandemic.

The watch platform Watchmaster has now determined, based on its sales, which used watch classics were particularly in demand in 2020.

The Swiss industry leader Rolex is represented six times in the top ten.

Among other things with a ladies model.

“More and more women are discovering the world of watches for themselves,” says Tim-Hendrik Meyer, Managing Director of Watchmaster.

"In addition to Rolex, Cartier models in particular are placed under the Christmas tree."

Which watch classics were also particularly popular this year:

Rolex Datejust

In 1945 the Rolex Datejust came on the market.

It was the first water-resistant watch that Rolex brought onto the market.

Today, the Jubilee bracelet, which was first used on the Datejust, is unmistakable for the brand.

Also typical of Rolex: the automatically changing date display at 3 o'clock.

No watch was sold as often at Watchmaster this year.

Rolex Submariner Date

Almost as popular this year was the Rolex Submariner Date diving watch.

Introduced in 1954, the Submariner's classic design has changed little over the years.

Rolex GMT-Master II

And another Rolex, which this year saw above-average demand.

Three time zones can be read off at the same time on the Rolex GMT-Master II.

No wonder, after all, it was originally developed for the pilots and crew of Pan American Airlines.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual, one of the more affordable watches from Rolex, is puristic, almost minimalistic.

Your case is made exclusively from stainless steel.

Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch

The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch is the first and so far only wristwatch that made it to the moon in 1969 - and withstood the adverse conditions there without any problems.

The design has hardly changed since then.

Rolex Lady Datejust

With the Rolex Lady Datejust, a ladies' watch also made it into the ranking.

The model is available with different dials; the classic watch comes with a fluted gold bezel.

Tag Heuer Carrera

With the Carrera, a model from the Tag Heuer brand is also represented in the ranking - one of the most famous racing watches.

Omega Seamaster Diver 300M

The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M, which was launched in 1957, comes in eighth.

The model is now available in a wide variety of designs.

Rolex Daytona

The Daytona is extremely popular with collectors.

Even used models are traded at their retail price.

In the past five years, their value has increased between 39 and 43 percent.

Breitling Superocean Heritage

Despite its last place in the ranking, the Breitling Superocean Heritage diving watch is still one of the ten most popular watch classics determined by the Watchmaster platform.
