Gérald Darmanin announced on Friday that the “Beauvau de la sécurité”, announced by Emmanuel Macron, will be launched at the end of January until May.

The Minister of the Interior, who receives the police unions this Friday, added that it would take the form of a "great debate".

"We were told that there will be meetings in Beauvau every two weeks around the" seven deadly sins "", the police reform proposals put forward by Gérald Darmanin, explained to AFP Grégory Joron, whose Unity-SGP-FO union had called for this new major consultation on the police.

Meetings with the police

“The objective is to achieve a Lopsi”, orientation and programming law, for 2022, added Grégory Joron after a meeting with the minister on Friday.

President Macron announced on December 8, in the midst of the controversy over police violence, the holding of this "Beauvau of security", in order to "improve the conditions of exercise" of the police and "consolidate" their links with the French.

In addition to trade union meetings on technical aspects, a decentralized “great debate” will be added, with visits to the field, particularly to police stations.

The working method should be specified in a letter sent Monday to the unions, the ministry told AFP.

Creation of an observatory

"We are waiting for this letter to see if we will participate," Fabien Vanhemelryck, secretary general of Alliance, majority among the peacekeepers, told AFP.

Alliance and UNSA had announced Tuesday that they would not go to the "Beauvau de la sécurité", demanding "concrete measures" beforehand.

This Friday, Alliance welcomed the confirmation of the creation of an “Observatory of penal responses” to attacks against the police.

It will be implemented on July 1, 2021, the ministry said.

"Analysis of the results will allow the government to adjust the penal response if necessary," he added.

The minister also detailed to the unions the support of complementary health and free transport from January 2022 "for home-work journeys of active police officers in intervention capacity".
