The early creation and burning of Yunnan blue and white in the Ming Dynasty reveals the technical system of porcelain making in the Red River Basin for the first time

Xinhua News Agency, Kunming, December 16th (Reporter Yan Yong) The reporter learned from the Yunnan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology that after the first archaeological excavation of the Jianshui Kiln site, researchers initially judged that the blue and white creation in Yunnan was in the early Ming Dynasty.

This discovery will systematically reveal the overall appearance of the porcelain-making technology system in the Red River Basin and provide an important reference for related research on the Maritime Silk Road.

The Jianshui Kiln site is located in Wanyao Village, Lin'an Town, Jianshui County, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It was discovered during the 1982 cultural relic survey.

The protected area of the site is 130.58 mu, which is the largest, longest in duration, richly preserved and relatively complete among the known ancient kiln sites in Yunnan. It has important academic research value.

According to Dai Zongpin, deputy director of the Yunnan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, from July to September this year, with the approval of the State Administration of Cultural Relics, the Yunnan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, Peking University, Honghe Prefecture Cultural Relics Management Institute, etc. formed a joint archaeological team. Active archaeological excavation of the kiln site.

The excavation sites were concentrated in the Xiayao area of Wanyao Village, with Huguang Kiln and Hongjia Kiln as the main sites. Daxin Kiln and Gaojia Kiln were investigated and excavated.

Excavated area of 500 square meters, exposed 3 kilns in Ming and Qing Dynasties, cleaned 7 ash pits, 4 ash ditch and 2 sagger walls. A total of more than 300,000 pieces of porcelain pieces and kiln furniture specimens were unearthed, and more than 3000 porcelains could be restored Pieces.

"We speculate that the overall production era of the kiln was concentrated in the early and mid-Ming Dynasty, and the burning time was roughly in the Ming Zhengtong, Jingtai, and Tianshun three dynasties. In addition, the light celadon porcelain and the imitated Longquan celadon were unearthed at the same level, indicating several types of products. Burn it at the same time," he said.

According to Dai Zongpin, Jianshui kiln industry presents a commodity production model of overall division of labor and decentralized production, which is quite different from the production model of Jingdezhen and other places in the Central Plains in the same period.

In addition, the unearthed relics are related to the ceramic industry in Vietnam in the lower reaches of the Red River Basin in certain production technologies, and together constitute a relatively unique technical system of the ceramic industry in the Red River Basin, and provide important references for related research on the Maritime Silk Road.
