Regarding the selection of the final disposal site for so-called "nuclear waste," the town council rejected a draft ordinance that refuses to bring in "nuclear waste" in Suttsu-cho, Hokkaido, where a literature search has begun.

The draft ordinance that refuses to bring it in has been passed by the neighboring Shimamaki village council, and there is a temperature difference between the councils.

In Suttsu Town, the NUMO = Nuclear Waste Management Organization of Japan, which will dispose of high-level radioactive waste from spent nuclear fuel at nuclear power plants, over the selection of a final disposal site for so-called "nuclear waste", conducted a literature survey last month. Is starting.

In response to this, at the regular town council held on the 17th, four town council members jointly submitted a draft ordinance refusing to bring "nuclear waste" into the town.

The draft ordinance includes

▽ not to bring "nuclear waste" into the town, and

▽ to hold a referendum when accepting the "summary survey" which is the next stage of the literature search.

As a result of the vote, the number of approvals and disapprovals was the same as 4 to 4, and the draft ordinance was finally rejected by the chairman's decision.

The draft ordinance that refuses to bring in "nuclear waste" was passed by the Shimamaki Village Council adjacent to Suttsu Town on the 15th, and was also submitted by the Kuromatsunai Town Council. So, there is a temperature difference between Suttsu Town and the councils of the surrounding municipalities.
