The SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach was by far the most frequent guest on television talk shows on public broadcasters this year.

The 57-year-old made a total of 30 appearances, as the newspapers of the editorial network Germany reported on Thursday.

He was ahead of ZDF's USA correspondent, Elmar Theveßen, who was a guest 27 times.

The fact that the talk shows this year were mainly dominated by the corona pandemic was also shown by the guest lists of the programs by Markus Lanz, Maybrit Illner, Sandra Maischberger, Frank Plasberg and Anne Will.

The top ten included three virologists: Melanie Brinkmann, Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit (16 appearances each) and Hendrik Streeck (14 appearances).

The virologist Alexander Kekulé was guest ten times, his colleague Christian Drosten, however, only twice.

With the ministers up front: Peter Altmaier

At the top of the country leaders was Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU).

He made 16 appearances.

Armin Laschet (CDU) from North Rhine-Westphalia, Malu Dreyer from Rhineland-Palatinate, Stephan Weil from Lower Saxony and Hamburg's First Mayor Peter Tschentscher (all SPD) follow with ten appearances each.
