The Hessian city of Hanau is using a refrigerated container in the main cemetery in view of the increasing number of deaths in connection with the corona virus.

In addition to the places for the dead in the two Hanau hospitals, the corresponding capacities of the mourning halls at the city's six cemeteries have also been exhausted, as a city spokesman said on Thursday.

There are a total of 68 such places in the cemeteries, and there are a further 24 in the two clinics.

On Wednesday evening, the city announced that because of the situation, the refrigerated container in the main cemetery would have to be used for the first time.

Initially, two dead were to be accommodated here.

In total, the container has 25 cooling spaces, said the spokesman.

It had already been set up in April of this year, but has not yet been used.
