Cinemas, theaters and museums, forced to remain closed in this period of health crisis, are stamping their feet.

Their patience could be further strained.

Most cultural venues hope to reopen on January 7.

However, this date is a "review clause" to examine whether the sanitary conditions allow these reopening, said Roselyne Bachelot on France Inter Thursday morning.

This is not a guaranteed reopening date, clarified the Minister of Culture.

"I would especially not want us to restart the scenario of December 15," where no one heard the sanitary conditions that had been set, "she added.

Among these conditions, a number of positive Covid-19 tests fell to around 5,000.

However, this number, which was falling, has stagnated for several days, and well beyond 5,000 since it is on average 12,000 cases per day, she recalled.

"Tailor-made"

Ready to reopen on December 15 as hoped for when the second confinement was announced at the end of October, cinemas, theaters and museums had thus seen their hopes dashed when Prime Minister Jean Castex had announced that, faced with the persistent epidemic pressure, they should stay still closed until at least January 7.

The Minister of Culture also assured that her ministry "study [has] solutions" to vary the restrictions depending on the health situation in the area concerned, and to "tailor-made".

But "beware of geographic measures: a sector which seems protected today can become a risk sector very quickly."

(…) Imagine reopening places of culture in Brittany to close them again in 15 days.

This is what is most terrible for artists, ”she said.
