A large-scale prehistoric ancient rice field was recently discovered at the Shi'ao site in Yuyao, Ningbo, Zhejiang. It is the largest, oldest, and most evidenced ancient rice field in the world.

Early exploration discovered that the total area of ​​ancient rice fields at the Shi'ao site was about 900,000 square meters, including the early, late, and Liangzhu culture periods of the Hemudu culture, which lasted from 7000 years ago to about 4500 years ago.
