Regarding the reprocessing plant in Rokkasho-mura, Aomori Prefecture, which extracts plutonium from spent nuclear fuel, Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited has put together a tentative plan that it will be able to start extracting plutonium from 2023.

The reprocessing plant is a key facility of the national nuclear fuel cycle policy that extracts plutonium from the nuclear fuel that has been used up at the nuclear power plant and reuses it as fuel.

On the 16th, Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited announced the prospect of technically possible reprocessing due to the capacity of the equipment.

According to this, in 2022, after treating the waste liquid remaining in the piping in the test operation conducted in the past, reprocessing will be started in 2023, and 0.6 tons of plutonium can be taken out, and in 2024 It was possible to take out 1.4 tons and 1.1 tons in 2025.

In addition, the plant next to the reprocessing plant, which produces special nuclear fuel using plutonium under construction, will start processing fuel from 2025.

Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited says that the amount of plutonium to be actually taken out will be decided by comprehensively judging the situation of each electric power company.
