Deputy Directors and Political Assistants are politically appointed officials, who must abide by the government’s decisions and bear collective responsibility for them.

In addition to assisting the directors in all aspects of political work, the deputy directors will also act on behalf of the directors when they are temporarily absent.

As important members of the SAR governance team, it is natural that the deputy director and political assistant must uphold the Basic Law and be loyal to the Hong Kong SAR.

  Except for politically appointed officials, the Civil Service Bureau issued a circular in October this year, requiring all civil servants who joined the SAR government on or after July 1 this year to take an oath or sign a declaration as part of the terms of employment.

The Civil Service Bureau will announce the specific arrangements for requiring incumbent civil servants to sign the declaration shortly.

The oath ceremony of the permanent secretary and department heads will be held on December 18.
