Spain is still far from the

herd immunity

that requires at least 60% of the population in contact with the virus.

One out of every ten Spaniards, around 4.7 million citizens, has been infected with coronavirus in the eleven months that we have had a pandemic -half in the second wave-, three million more than those counted as diagnosed by the Ministry of Health , which brings them to just over 1.7 million.

The Government and the autonomous communities are already preparing to advance the start of vaccination against covid-19 in Spain, where there is again a worrying upturn in cases.

The cumulative incidence of cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days has risen five points, to 198.77, the Ministry of Health has reported 388 new deaths from coronavirus and 10,328 new infections.

With this context of evolution of the pandemic, the announcement that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) could conclude the evaluation of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine on December 21, 8 days ahead of schedule, has fueled the hope of be able to start vaccinating risk groups before the end of December.

China finds coronavirus for the first time in nationally produced frozen foods

Authorities in the Chinese city of Chuzhou, in the eastern province of Anhui, announced today that they have found

coronavirus

in the packaging of frozen chicken meat, something that, according to the official press, is the first time that SARS-CoV has been detected -2 in non-imported products of this type.

So far, China has reported on numerous occasions the detection of viruses in the packaging of frozen foods from other countries, the last of them this Tuesday, when the Chongqing authorities (center) found it in a batch of beef imported from Argentina, part of which had already been sold in various parts of the municipality.

According to the Lai'an County Disease Prevention Center, which includes Chuzhou, a batch of frozen chicken thighs from a local factory of the American multinational Cargill tested positive for the coronavirus.

7.00 Santiago de Compostela returns to the perimeter closure due to the evolution of the pandemic

The clinical committee that advises the Xunta regarding the evolution of the coronavirus has decided that Santiago de Compostela will once again be closed on the perimeter this midnight due to the rebound in cases in the Galician capital, which passes the medium level of restrictions.

After Santiago, along with Ourense, were the first large cities to abandon the maximum restrictions already for the bridge in early December, just 12 days later the inhabitants of the Galician capital will not be able to leave it except for work, health or educational reasons .

In addition to the perimeter closure, moving to the medium level of restrictions implies that the hospitality industry may be open until 11:00 p.m., with 40% capacity indoors and 50% outdoors and with tables for up to six people.

The meetings may be of a maximum of six people, living together or not.

The mayor of Santiago, Xosé Sánchez Bugallo, had already warned this Monday that the covid-19 data registered in the last seven days in the city was "extremely worrying", having passed 84 active cases between the end of November and the beginning December, 137-14 December.

6.50 US authorizes the first home test without a prescription for covid-19

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States, the body that regulates the commercialization of drugs, authorized this Tuesday the first home test for covid-19 for sale without a prescription.

"By authorizing a test for use without a prescription, the FDA allows it to be sold in places like pharmacies, where a patient can buy it, get a nasal sample, run the test and see the results in as little as 20 minutes," he said in a the chief regulator, Stephen Hahn, announced.

The test is from the Australian pharmaceutical Ellume and detects protein fragments of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in any individual from two years of age.

Users who use the Ellume test must download a mobile application that will help them interpret the results and share them with the health authorities.

Ellume expects to produce about three million tests in January of next year.
