FDP Vice Wolfgang Kubicki doubts the sense of the FFP2 mask distribution to risk groups.

"Unfortunately, it sounds like real satire when (Health Minister) Jens Spahn now calls on the vulnerable groups to pick up their three FFP2 masks in the pharmacies while the country is going into hard lockdown," Kubicki told the newspapers of the Funke media group.

"The contact restriction wanted by the Chancellor is thus taken ad absurdum by her own minister."

Many elderly people in rural areas would increase contacts even further in order to go to the pharmacy because they would have to get on the bus or taxi.

"It would have made much more sense if the health insurance companies had sent several FFP2 masks to people by post instead of the counterfeit-proof coupons."

The free distribution of FFP2 masks for around 27 million citizens in Germany from corona risk groups is to begin on Tuesday.

In a first step, people over 60 and people with certain chronic diseases should be able to get three masks free of charge from the pharmacy from Tuesday.

In the second step, those affected can receive another twelve masks from January 1st.

For this they should get coupons from the health insurance company for two times six FFP2 masks each.
