After two months of open conflict, Mediapro and the Professional Football League have officially terminated their contract for football television rights.

But this divorce, certainly expected and even hoped for by several players in the sector, worries subscribers.

Sports economist Vincent Chaudel explains in "Culture Médias" what awaits them.

After several months of speculation, we learned that Mediapro finally had 480,000 subscribers to its Téléfoot channel, far from the 600,000 once posted.

So many people worried about their money and their access to football games after the divorce between Mediapro and the Professional Football League (LFP).

Sports economist Vincent Chaudel clarifies their situation, on a case-by-case basis, in

Culture Médias.

"The channel should finish broadcasting at the end of January, at most. There are therefore several losers in this case: clubs, employees and subscribers," said the economist.

Vincent Chaudel points out that there are several types of Téléfoot subscription, with distinct reimbursement possibilities.

"Subscribers without commitment can, them, leave very quickly and without too many consequences for them," he reassures.

"For subscribers with commitment, it will be very difficult to recover the sums without compensation, without real service ... Finally, the subscribers of coupled offers will have to negotiate a consideration in the form of a reduction in the subscription."

Very short term subscriptions

The announced closure of the channel has prompted Mediapro to offer new subscription possibilities to the Téléfoot channel, with three new packages for one day, three days or one week.

They cost between € 3.90 and € 9.90.

It is Thursday that the commercial court of Nanterre will examine the agreement reached at the end of last week between Mediapro and the LFP.
