The federal government expects the impending lockdown to cost billions more.

Bridging aid III for the now additional closings, for example in retail and from January for all businesses affected by closings, will be roughly estimated internally at ten to twelve billion euros per month, says a government representative for the Reuters news agency.

In December it will be less, because restaurants and closed leisure facilities will then still receive the sales compensation as part of November and December aid.

The government expects the December aid to cost around 4.5 billion euros per week.

With the new closings and from the beginning of the year for everyone, only fixed costs are to be reimbursed as part of the bridging aid.

Because of the continued high number of infections, the federal and state governments are advising on stricter measures in the corona pandemic.

On Sunday morning, the Prime Ministers joined Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) for a video conference.

In view of the persistently high number of corona infections, Germany is facing a tough lockdown lasting several weeks, which is likely to begin on Wednesday.
