After the plastic shopping bags were charged, 70% of the people in Japan stopped receiving plastic shopping bags at the stores where they shopped, and it is estimated that the ratio has more than doubled before the charge. I found out in the investigation.

Plastic shopping bags will be charged in July, and the Ministry of the Environment conducted a questionnaire on the Internet last month for a total of 2,100 men and women between the ages of 15 and 79 in an attempt to understand the usage status after that, based on the results. The situation in Japan as a whole was estimated in consideration of the gender ratio and the population ratio by age group.

According to this, 71.9% of the total number of people who did not receive plastic shopping bags at stores that shopped within a week.

Before the charge, an estimate based on a similar survey conducted in March showed that 30.4% of people did not receive plastic shopping bags, which is more than double the number after the charge.

Looking at the percentage of people who did not receive plastic shopping bags by age group, 84% were in their 60s or older, followed by 78% in their 50s and 68% in their teens, doubling in all age groups. It has increased more than that.

In addition, about 94% of people have their own bag, which is estimated to be about 10 points higher than before the charge.

On the other hand, 40% of the respondents said that their interest in the plastic waste problem itself has not increased even after the charge for plastic shopping bags, and that their behavior and consciousness have not changed although their interest has increased. Therefore, the Ministry of the Environment is strengthening measures to reduce plastic waste.
