The investigation still ongoing

In the traditional end-of-year issue of the famous magazine dedicated to the women and men who made the news in 2020, Assa Traoré, 35, was named "Guardians of the Year", alongside other organizations and anti-racist activists.

Adama Traoré died on July 19, 2016 after his arrest, after a chase with the gendarmes in Beaumont-sur-Oise (Val-d'Oise).

Relatives of the victim have claimed for four years that he was "killed" by the gendarmes.

But the investigation, still ongoing, has not established with certainty the causes of his death.

To the legal expertises clearing customs the gendarmes replied the medical reports requested by the family implicating them.

To date, the gendarmes have not been indicted.

"When we see that France has reduced our fight to insults and accusations, we need a consecration to come from abroad", added this figure of anti-racism, who also received in June a BET awards , prize awarded by an American television channel to African-American and minority personalities.
