I don't recall any
memorable
dialogue from
The Undoing
.
Nor any image, except for the paintings (squares) that decorate the floor (pisazo) of Donald Sutherland in the series.
The best thing about
The Undoing
are the paintings and the floors.
And then the coats (what a waste of good wool).
And then the supernatural hair (pelazo) of Nicole Kidman.
Will it be a wig, as almost always?
I wouldn't be surprised.
Not even there would the HBO series know to be authentic.
It was one of the most anticipated productions of the year and it has turned out to be one of his biggest disappointments
.
2020 has not even known how to give us a good Nicole.
A new David E. Kelley and Kidman collaboration, after
Big Little Lies
, didn't sound bad at all.
And the inclusion of Hugh Grant, a
hot
actor playing shady dudes, made
The Undoing
an attractive project.
That his intrigue was relatively conventional we already imagined it.
And that his narrative resources had nothing new.
But not that everything else was a disaster.
Only
the direction of Susanne Bier
(
In a better world
,
The infiltrator
) and
the magnetic Noma Dumezweni
, in a character of a Machiavellian lawyer who deserves her own series, are saved.
The rest (including the ever efficient Lily Rabe) is nowhere.
The Undoing
is like Edgar Ramírez in
The Undoing
: it doesn't matter if he is there or not.
But what floors.
And what coats.
Of course, when
Billions
returns
, with their glass-enclosed attics and their Loro Piana sweatshirts, to see who remembers Nicole being overwhelmed because Hugh got out of hand.
In
The Disorder You Leave
Almost Everyone He gets out of hand.
The Carlos Montero (
Elite
) series that Netflix premieres today does not have even a tenth of the claims of
The Undoing
and, therefore, among other things, it is
much better television.
Montero adapts his own novel and achieves something far from easy on television, much less in 2020: to
create his own atmosphere
.
I have not finished watching the series and I already want a second season in which the story changes but the scenery is maintained:
a green, bright, oppressive and sexually charged Galicia.
On the other hand, Montero knows that with that alone a series cannot hold.
The mess you leave
sounds like a pink novel, but nothing is further from the truth.
The English title of the series,
The mess you leave behind
, we could re-translate it into Spanish as
Good that you have bundled
.
Or better:
Good the one you have bundled
.
Inma Cuesta and Bárbara Lennie in a perverse space-time mirror game
that is not ashamed of being sexy or manipulative or being television.
Unveiling its plot and twists here would be rogue.
Those of
The Undoing
don't matter to anyone anymore.
