It was supposed to be a meeting dedicated to investors, but they were treated to a luxury trailer illustrating some of the films and series being produced by Disney.

With the very good results of the Disney + platform, the studio presented a firework display of novelties, in particular around the worlds of Star Wars and Marvel.

This is the news for the night from Thursday to Friday: a real tidal wave stamped with Disney, and in particular Disney +.

The American giant has unveiled record figures for its new Disney + platform launched just a year ago, and in the process announced not one, not two, or three new productions, but a host of series, films and remakes of its different universes, Pixar, Marvel or even Star Wars.

The studio hoped for 60 million users initially for the first year of its video on demand platform, it has already announced more than 86 million.

The rise of Disney +

Tonight's announcements clearly show the group's desire to ramp up on the Disney + platform.

From your sofa, you will be able to devour in the years to come ten new

Star Wars

series, ten

Marvel

series

, fifteen Disney series, but also the version of

Alien

by Ridley Scott.

The Kardashian clan has also just signed a contract with the American firm.

Disney's goal for the platform is clear: one novelty per week.

230 million customers by 2024

While Disney + was hoping for 90 million subscribers by the end of 2024, the studio now expects 230 to 260 million new customers by that date, by opening networks in Hong Kong, South Korea and Europe. from the east.

While since last September, Disney has made some 32,000 layoffs, Disney shares took 3% Thursday on Wall Street after the announcements.

Bob Chapek, boss of Disney, is already rubbing his hands.

And the cinema in all this?

Disney isn't abandoning cinema just yet, with theatrical releases planned like

Rogue Squadron

due in late 2023, directed by Patty Jenkins, who will be the first woman to lead a feature film in the Star Wars franchise, or fifteen more animated films and as many from the Pixar studio.

But are also expected a new episode of the Fantastic Four, Thor, the return of Whoopy Goldberg in Sister Act 3 or an animated film dedicated to the emblematic character of Toy Story: Buzz Lightyear.

This apparent vitality of Disney in the current period foreshadows several changes in strategy: first, Entertainment will be consumed tomorrow more than ever at home.

This posting of films and series does not appeal at all to cinema operators, who see here a formidable competition and perhaps fatal for them in the medium or long term.
