The British film "Limbo", directed by Ben Sharrok, and starring Prince of Egypt, won the Golden Pyramid Award at the Cairo International Film Festival in its 42nd edition, which concluded the night before last at the Egyptian Opera House.

The film also won the International Critics Association Award (Febrese), in addition to the award for best artistic contribution in the international competition.

He won the Silver Pyramid Award for Best Russian Directing, Ivan A. Tvradovsky, for the film "Conference", and the Bronze Pyramid went to the best first or second work for the Egyptian documentary "Long Live Captain" directed by Mai Zayed.

The Hungarian Julian Fergov won the Best Actor award for his role in the movie “Lessons of the German Language,” while the award for best actress was shared by Egyptian Ilham Shaheen for her role in the movie “Curfew,” and Russian Natalia Pavlenkova for her role in the movie “Conference” was shared.

"50 or Two Whales Meet on the Beach" won the award for best screenplay.

The competition jury also praised the Palestinian film "Gaza Monamur" by the Tarzan and Arab Nasser brothers.

The director of the festival, producer and screenwriter, Mohamed Hefzy, said that the turnout for watching movies of the 42nd session is almost identical to what it was in the previous session, despite the reduction in the capacity of the exhibition halls by 50% due to the precautionary measures to combat the Corona virus.

He added that ticket sales exceeded 30,000 tickets, which he considered evidence of the public’s thirst for cinema and art, and the attendees ’confidence in the festival’s organizers despite the exceptional circumstances that the whole world is experiencing.

In the "Arab Cinema Horizons" competition, the Lebanese film "Under the Skies and the Earth" by Roy Arida won the prize, while the Lebanese film "We are from there", directed by Wissam Tanios, won the award for best non-fiction film.

The jury awarded its special prize to the Saudi film “Hadd Al-Tara”, whose hero, Faisal Dokhi, won the award for best acting performance in the competition. The jury also praised the Moroccan film “Kharif Al-Tuffah” by Mohamed Muftakir.

And in the "Cinema of Tomorrow" competition for short films;

The award was won by the film "Isabel" by Egyptian director Sarah El Shazly, and "The Match" won the Special Jury Prize.

In the "Critics Week" competition, the Chinese film "The Best Is Not Coming" won the award, directed by Jing Wang, while the jury awarded its prize to the Dutch film "Gold" by Roger Hesp.

And the Cairo Film Festival fans awarded its prize, which is based on direct voting for the film “Long Live Captain,” which also won the Isis Award for the best Egyptian film that highlights the social and economic role of women.

The best Arab film award went to the festival in various competitions, equally between the films "Gaza Monamur" and "We are from there."
