From next week, shopping in Saxony should only be possible within a 15-kilometer radius.
The rule is provided for in the new Corona Protection Ordinance, said Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU).
The cabinet wants to pass the new state regulation on Friday.
Kretschmer wants to suggest to the government that the 15-kilometer radius only applies to the state border - i.e. within the Free State.
The Prime Minister is reacting to concerns from Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt, who fear shopping tourism from Saxony as a nationwide Corona hotspot.
For example, Halle's Lord Mayor Bernd Wiegand (independent) called for more concrete measures from Saxony in view of the announced lockdown.
Wiegand said in an interview with “MDR Aktuell” one possibility is to stipulate area restrictions in the Saxon state ordinance.
It is important to limit visitor traffic between Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt in order to curb the spread of the corona virus.
The Lord Mayor of Erfurt, Andreas Bausewein (SPD) fears “displacement effects” from shopping trips by people from federal states with stricter corona rules than in Thuringia: “It must not be that people from Saxony and Bavaria now come to Thuringia to shop and here infect people. "
Actually, Saxony did not intend to draw a border with other federal states in the corona pandemic, not even with the 15-kilometer rule.
"But I don't want Saxon license plates to be hunted down, for example in parking lots or in front of supermarkets," says Kretschmer.
