The

evolution of the pandemic

is favorable in Spain, with a better

epidemiological situation

this Tuesday in Galicia, Catalonia and the Basque Country, but after the December bridge, the autonomous communities look with concern at the

possible impact that the Christmas holidays

may have on infections .

This Wednesday, the Government and communities will meet within the Interterritorial Council of the National Public Health System to assess the epidemiological situation after the December bridge and with an eye on the imminent celebration of Christmas.

Some autonomous communities come today to the meeting with specific proposals, such as the Region of Murcia, which wants

entry into the community to

be

limited to family members,

so that those close to them could not travel during the holidays.

Galicia and Andalusia also differ on this issue with the Government and the Basque Country will decide tomorrow

if the restrictions on holidays are relaxed,

and if those that affect the hotel industry, closed for weeks,

are relaxed

.

7.00 People vaccinated against Covid-19 should continue to wear a mask

The new vaccines against Covid-19 from Pfizer and Moderna promise a very high percentage of prevention against the most serious form of the disease, but it is not clear to what extent they stop the spread of the virus.

"Many people think that once they are vaccinated they will no longer have to wear masks," Michal Tal, an immunologist at Stanford University, told The New York Times.

"It's going to be really critical for them to know if they have to keep wearing a mask, because they could still be contagious."

For most respiratory infections, including Covid-19, the nose is the main port of entry.

The virus multiplies rapidly there, causing the immune system to produce a class of antibodies that are specific to the mucosa, the moist tissue that lines the nose, mouth, lungs, and stomach.

If the same person is exposed to the virus a second time, those antibodies quickly kill the virus in the nose before it has a chance to spread to another part of the body.

Instead, coronavirus vaccines are quickly injected and absorbed into the bloodstream, where they stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies.

This would produce enough protection to keep the vaccinated person from getting sick.

Some of these antibodies will settle in the nasal mucosa but it is not known with certainty how much.

In this way, if the antibodies present in the mucosa are not enough, the virus could duplicate itself in the nose and be sneezed or exhaled and spread to other people.
