A cruise ship has returned to Singapore after a corona case on board.

A passenger tested positive for the virus, and the ship then started its way back and returned to Singapore on Wednesday, said the cruise company Royal Caribbean.

The passenger had turned to the medical team on board the ship "Quantum of the Seas" himself.

"We identified and isolated all guests and crew members who had close contact with this guest," the company explained.

All were tested negative.

According to the newspaper "Straits Times", the sick person is an 83-year-old from Singapore.

According to the information, a total of almost 1700 passengers and around 1150 crew members were on board.

The round trip was originally supposed to last four days until Thursday.

Passengers should be allowed to leave the ship after the contact follow-up is complete.

Cruise was a pilot project

Singapore recently made travel on cruise ships possible again as part of a pilot program - the concept of “safe” travel stipulates that the ships only set out on round trips and do not head for any other ports in the meantime.

The offer is therefore also called a "cruise to nowhere".

Other security measures include reducing the number of passengers by half, and passengers are tested before departure.

Royal Carribbean is one of two companies that are allowed to offer the excursions.

The corona pandemic hit the cruise industry particularly hard.

There were outbreaks on several ships in the spring.
