The employees of the Health Insurance are used to mobilizing for Pink October, an operation to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Deprived of running, marches and gatherings due to the health crisis, they had the idea of making “handmade” cushions to relieve women who have undergone a mastectomy (breast removal).

On Friday, 35 amateur seamstresses handed over 113 heart-shaped cushions to the Eugène Marquis cancer center.

These cushions were imagined almost twenty years ago in the United States.

Filled with 170 grams of padding, these heart-shaped pieces fit under the arm and relieve pain by reducing tension from surgery.

The League against cancer has shared a tutorial and a pattern on its site to allow all sewing enthusiasts to make them.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women.

Nearly 60,000 breast cancers are detected each year.

In Ille-et-Vilaine, 3,000 women are screened every month.

Screening is recommended from age 50 for all women and can detect the disease at an early stage, including asymptomatic patients.
