Among them, nearly half are distributed in South Asian and Southeast Asian countries.

  Yunnan has more than 4,000 kilometers of borders, bordering Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam, and adjacent to many countries in South Asia and Southeast Asia.

It is a key node in advancing the construction of the "Belt and Road" and China's all-round opening up.

  In recent years, the Yunnan foreign affairs department has continuously established and improved multi-bilateral cooperation mechanisms, extensively and deeply participated in Lancang-Mekong cooperation, Greater Mekong subregional economic cooperation, Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar regional cooperation; created a China-South Asia Cooperation Forum to promote all-round cooperation between China and South Asia; and 9 countries set up 11 multilateral and bilateral cooperation mechanisms to discuss, build and share the results of cooperation.

  According to Yang Shaocheng, Director of the Regional Office of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Yunnan Provincial Government, Yunnan has not only actively established a multilateral and bilateral cooperation mechanism, but has also accelerated the expansion of the “friend circle” of international sister cities. “The number of sister cities in Yunnan has increased from 61 pairs in early 2015 to the current 100 pairs, covering 5 There are 36 countries on the continent. Among them, 46 pairs of sister cities have been established with South Asian and Southeast Asian countries, accounting for 46% of the total."

  Yang Shaocheng said that international sister cities are increasingly becoming an important platform for local exchanges, especially during the new crown pneumonia epidemic this year, Yunnan used sister cities channels to help each other and help each other in the same boat, laying a solid foundation for deepening cooperation in the post-epidemic era.
