Just over 300 people have died in hospital from the coronavirus, while the number of patients in intensive care continues to decline, according to data from Public Health France released Wednesday.

In the last twenty-four hours, 313 patients with Covid-19 have indeed died in hospital, against 365 the day before, bringing the total since the start of the epidemic to 53,816.

Less than 3,500 patients in intensive care

Pressure also continues to slowly ease on hospitals: intensive care units counted 3,478 patients Wednesday against 3,594 Tuesday, with 161 new admissions over twenty-four hours, against 234 the day before.

The number of people hospitalized with a Covid-19 diagnosis fell slightly, to 26,986 against 27,611 the day before, after a peak of more than 33,000 patients reached on November 16.

The positivity rate (proportion of the number of positive people compared to the total number of people tested) was identical to that of the day before, at 10.8%.

However, the number of new cases of contamination recorded in the last twenty-four hours was up Wednesday, amounting to 14,064, against 8,083 the day before.

According to the most recent projections from the Institut Pasteur, between 1,600 and 2,600 patients should be hospitalized in intensive care in mid-December in France, i.e. at the bottom of the range that the government has set to lift most of the measures of confinement.
