Gandalf and Bilbo embark on a new quest!

This time it's about saving… the home of JRR Tolkien, the legendary author of The

Lord of the Rings

and

The Hobbit

.

Ian McKellen, who played the Wizard in both film adaptations, and Martin Freeman, who played The Adventurous Hobbit in the eponymous trilogy, joined the fundraising campaign to turn 20 Northmoor Road in Oxford into the Tolkien Museum.

This is where the author lived when he wrote his two cult literary sagas, and the Project Northmoor association therefore decided to raise funds to buy the house and transform it into a literary center in memory of the one who has been the dream of so many heroic fantasy fans for over 80 years (The Hobbit having been published in 1937).

Besides Martin Freeman and Ian McKellen, other key players in the cinema saga, such as John Rhys-Davies (who played Gimli) have joined the project, launched by author Julia Golding.

Now accepting donations with "thank you" gifts including having the donor's name in a book that will remain in Tolkien's study.

Huge challenge

The idea is therefore to raise nearly 5 million euros in three months, to have the means to buy this opulent house and renovate it, while ensuring that it resumes the appearance it had. when John Ronald Reuel Tokien lived there.

“Raising 5 million euros in three months is a huge challenge.

But just looking at Frodo and Sam's journey from Rivendell to Mountain of Doom, which took the same time, and it gave us confidence, we can do it, "Julia Golding told The

Guardian

, referring to to the adventures of the hero of The Lord of the Rings.

And Ian McKellen added: "We won't do it without the support of the global community and the fans of Tolkien, our Founders Community."

No center in the world is yet dedicated to the monumental work of JRR Tolkien.

It would therefore be a great first.

A few hours before the start of funding, the project had raised 6% of the sum.

Another effort ...
