In the future, teachers and educators should be able to test themselves for the corona virus after receiving appropriate training.

"Daycare centers and schools or their providers can independently obtain and use rapid tests from Friday," said Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) to the newspapers of the Funke media group.

"Teachers will be allowed to test themselves regularly." Rapid antigen tests could help to better protect teachers and educators and thus children too.

So far, rapid antigen tests have only been allowed to be carried out by medically trained personnel.

With a new regulation that comes into force this Friday, Spahn wants to regulate on the one hand that educators can test themselves after previous training.

In addition, the school authorities should also be able to carry out tests on site with trained staff if necessary.

"This is another option that is suitable for everyday use to enable children to go to daycare or school even in times of pandemic," Spahn told the newspapers.

According to the Ministry of Health, the Robert Koch Institute has received 636 corona outbreaks in schools since the beginning of the pandemic, as reported in the newspapers of the Funke media group.

In the past four weeks, there have been around 64 outbreaks per week.

18 percent of these outbreaks would have affected 6-10 year olds, 26 percent 11-14 year olds, 31 percent 15-20 year olds and 25 percent people over the age of 21.

In 53 outbreaks (8 percent), only adults were affected.

According to the data, the proportion of infection cases in schools in all corona outbreaks is around two percent.
