  • Staff in the social and medico-social sector, considering themselves "forgotten by Ségur", are also calling for a salary increase.

  • A demonstration was organized this Thursday afternoon in Nantes, at the call of the CGT.

They ask for “recognition”, “a little more comfortable life”.

This Thursday afternoon, dozens of staff from the social and medico-social sector demonstrated in Nantes, at the call of the CGT, in front of the headquarters of Linkiaa, the largest social association in the department.

These "forgotten people of Segur", as they are called, braved the pouring rain to denounce an "injustice".

“We too were very invested during the confinement with very vulnerable people,” says Julien, an educator specializing in women's shelters.

Next to him, a man carries a small sign: “Caregiver on sale, -183 euros per month”.

This sum, which everyone is claiming here, is what the medical and paramedical staff of hospitals and nursing homes were able to obtain, within the framework of the Ségur de la santé.

“But the agents of the social and medico-social sector were excluded, regrets Robin Michon, regional coordinator of the CGT.

It is inconsistent!

A caregiver who works in the hospital will receive much more than that of a specialized establishment ... We are already beginning to witness a flight of these personnel.

"

"Ridiculous salary scale"

Under their umbrella, Laetitia and Magalie can only agree.

These two medico-psychological assistants, who work with autistic people, have seen several of their colleagues resign recently.

"It's a very heavy physical and psychological investment for a ridiculous salary scale," says Laetitia, 38 years old.

I am at 90%, I work early in the morning, late at night, one weekend a month… All this for 1,235 euros net, with five years of seniority.

We love our job, that's how we hold it.

"

But according to the demonstrators, the health crisis and the confinement only worsened the situation.

“We worked 24 hours a day, without any support from our employer,” say Jeanette, Nathalie and Amélie, three family assistants.

The children we take in had no more school, no more appointments with the speech therapist or psychologist, no more visits from parents… This period was very hard for them, and for us too.

"

"We are given crumbs"

A few days ago, some of them began to receive a Covid bonus of 1,000 euros, which the Loire-Atlantique department chose to finance after the government withdrew from this category of personnel.

A small consolation prize for this educator from Saint-Brevin: “We are only given crumbs, you know why?

Because we are a profession that takes care of disabled or psychiatric people.

A little damaged people that society does not want to see, but who nevertheless really need to be taken care of.
