  • For the first time since 1979, the Trans Musicales will not take place this weekend in Rennes due to the health situation.

  • Despite the cancellation of the festival, the Trans team offers online concerts by twelve artists from the 2020 lineup.

  • A small consolation for the Breton artist Brieg Guerveno who is eager to find the public.

The weekend is likely to be very sad in Rennes, deprived of Trans Musicales for the first time since 1979. “A heartbreak” for the festival team who had nevertheless developed seven scenarios to adapt to the health context.

But the announcement of a new confinement on October 28 swept away the last hopes, forcing the Trans Musicales to end their 2020 edition like so many other festivals.

Jean-Louis Brossard and his troop, however, could not bring themselves to do nothing.

“Even if we cannot welcome audiences to the festival this year, we wish to remain faithful to our position at the forefront of current music and continue to satisfy the thirst for discovery,” says the Trans Musicales team.

Since Wednesday and until Saturday, it is therefore an online version of the festival that is offered on the sites of France TV Culturebox, FIP and TVR with the sessions filmed live, but without an audience, by twelve groups and artists from the 2020 programming.

"I make music to play in front of people"

Among them, Brieg Guerveno who will perform this Friday evening in the empty hall of Ubu.

A small consolation for the Breton artist who would normally have had to share the TNB stage with the Italian artist Andrea Laszlo de Simone.

"It was a massive blow when I learned of the cancellation of the Trans, the second in the year because I had already canceled my summer tour with concerts planned at the Vieilles Charrues and at the Interceltique de Lorient. », Indicates the singer and guitarist, who was however happy to present for the first time on stage his new album

, released in January.

Extract from my last album, the title "vel pas vefemp", filmed live at the Lamenais chapel on March 12th in Saint Brieuc.

In the absence of festival-goers, it is therefore in front of an audience of Internet users that Brieg Guerveno will present his folk compositions sung in Breton.

“I'm not a fan of streaming because I make music to play in front of people,” he says.

But the period is so complicated that we are going to take what there is.

It's our last cartridge of the year to play and we want to do things well ”.

For all artists, 2020 will in any case be a year to quickly forget.

But concerns also persist for next year.

"We hope of course to find the stage and the public again because if it does not play again this summer, we can be very worried about the live performance".
