Rapid antigen tests are not only comparatively easy to use.

They also draw boundaries: With their help, for example, one should be able to prevent the family Christmas party from being followed by a family tragedy with an intensive care unit and coronary death.

The virologist Alexander Kekulé is therefore now openly calling for something that the rule-makers in the health system can confidently understand as a rebellion: The families should all test themselves before they let it for Christmas.

It is a rebellion because such an approach is not wanted by the authorities. Firstly, an infection with the coronavirus is notifiable - and in the case of such infections, giving tests to lay people is actually prohibited.
