Mank portrays screenwriter Herman J. "Mank" Mankiewicz's work on the film A Sensation (Citizen Kane) with director Orson Wells.

The film is repeatedly named one of the best Hollywood films ever made.

The inspiration for Kane came from the newspaper owner William Randolph Hearst, who is considered the father of sensational journalism.

Started business in 1916

Hearst met Marion Davies when she was an actress on Broadway and they started a business in 1916. Amanda Seyfried, who plays Davies in Mank, says that Davies' relationship with Hearst meant that she never got the appreciation she deserved as an actress.

Mank premieres on Netflix on December 4.
