For a change, good news: 2020 will be a very good vintage.

Not an excellent one, but one above average.

Almost everywhere in Europe the weather was balanced, there were fewer extremes than usual, and a very early harvest like 2018 was not an issue either.

The amount of wine that is currently maturing or even fermenting in the tanks and barrels is considerable.

German winegrowers are expecting a yield of 8.86 million hectoliters, which corresponds to an increase of 6.4 percent compared to the previous year - so there is plenty of drinkable on the market. But it is also the time to get rid of the old stocks. This is exactly what has happened all year round - and more successfully than you might have expected.
