Group BTS (BTS) is the first Korean popular music music group to be nominated for the Grammy Awards and challenged the top three music awards in the United States.

However, a report came to SBS that the streaming site'Melon' is introducing BTS as'J-POP'.

Melon is a representative music site in Korea with a maximum of 40 million songs.

When I searched for BTS in the actual Melon, the keyword'J-POP' appeared along with the genre of rap/hip-hop and dance.

In Melon, if you search for BTS, TWICE, IZONE, SEVENTEEN, etc., they are similarly classified by J-POP category and introduced.

How did it happen?

Melon said in a call with SBS reporters, "It is not classified as K-POP or J-POP in the genre, and if a record has been released in Japan, it will be marked as such."

Then, "If you enter the'Details' of BTS and click'Type', your nationality is listed as'Korea/Male/Group'," said a Melon official, "Please refer to this section and use it."

Of course, there are Japanese versions of the original songs such as No More Dream, Danger, Spring Day, and Run, and Japanese original songs such as Stay Gold, WAKE UP and The Stars.

However, if you search for BTS on other streaming sites'Bugs', it is only rap/hip-hop, and in'Genie' it is indicated as Korean/male/group, showing a difference.

In addition, from the perspective of users who do not know why Melon displays this way, it may be misunderstood in terms of information.

Actually, the genre of Japanese singers active in Japan is also marked as'J-POP', so there may be more room for confusion.

There are not many people who don't know that BTS is a Korean singer, but many other K-pop singers who are active in various places can also be misunderstood.

Not a few fans, including the informant, expressed their regret, saying, "Isn't it necessary to make an effort to protect the singers who are doing a great job in making our country known and interested in other worlds, even from our record industry.
