A unique style installation that spreads light during the day ... and lights up at night

"Pearl": An artistic shadow on the beach of Al Reem Island

The "Maker's District" project in Al Reem Island, which represents a mixed-use center in Abu Dhabi, designed with the aim of simulating the lifestyles of creators, innovators and entrepreneurs, has succeeded in strengthening the philosophy of the real estate development company "Imkan", which is the building of conscious urban communities that enrich the lives of others. By adding a new technical installation.

The new artwork bears the name "Pearl", and it is the creativity of the internationally known artist and designer, Jenny Sabin. This artwork sits on the main stage on the beach of "Makers District" to offer residents and visitors an exceptional experience that remains present in their minds.

The artwork incorporates the latest technology in a magical design that captures the eyes, as it consists of thousands of conical shapes and cells made of fibers, which have been woven and engineered using the latest digital technologies.

And the installation absorbs solar energy, during the day to light up at night, thanks to its components of optical fibers that work as soon as the sun sets.

The "Pearl" installation also includes a canopy equipped with a steam cooling system, which creates a microclimate to cool the atmosphere for visitors on hot sunny days.

The general effect of the artistic installation is to provide a distinct environment that responds and interacts with the surrounding light characteristics that occur over a 24-hour period, and the steam works to add an artistic and aesthetic touch to the composition, through the colors of the rainbow that appear when sunlight flows through the water spray.

In the context, Katayon Lazar, Design Officer, Research and Development Department at Imkan said: “Emkan's philosophy revolves around building conscious urban communities that enrich the lives of residents and visitors. The artistic installation created by Jenny Sabin was a clear expression of these ideal values. .

We were keen to assign Jenny Sabin studio to create this project, especially since its design philosophy is consistent with Imkan standards, and this was the main motivation behind our keenness to cooperate with it.

We are pleased to add the artistic installation (Pearl) to our project to enhance its unique value, as the role of this creative work is not limited to adding a whiff of innovation and creativity to (Makers District), but extends to support the continuous development of the project. ”

Lazar added: “The presence of artworks in public places inspires creativity, social participation and interaction of the general public, as they add aesthetic points, represent an additional attraction factor for destinations and elevate the experiences of residents and visitors alike.

Our research has shown that the introduction of arts and culture greatly contributes to developing the local economy and enhancing its vitality, and this was evident in the distinguished response we received with the addition of the artistic composition (Pearl).

On her part, Jenny Sabin said: “When Imkan contacted me to discuss the proposed artwork for the Makers District project, I was astonished by their creative vision, in which the innovative and inspiring role of the artwork is reflected, which will enrich the project with unique patterns based on creativity and place them under the eyes of the general public.

They showed great interest in artwork preparation as much as they were interested in reaching the desired end result, something that was a great inspiration from the beginning of the work.

As part of the research and design stage, we were keen to add a completely new optical material that responds to light by absorbing it and is used for the first time in the umbrella structure.

There is no doubt that we share together the same visions regarding bringing people together from various disciplines of life, and therefore we were keen to design (Pearl) to be a product of creativity in architecture, biology, science, mathematics, engineering, creativity and beauty, and I am confident that this artwork will inspire anyone. He sees it to interact with him ».
