A lane for buses, but also taxis and soon electric scooters?

The Public Service site said on Friday that they could now travel on the lanes reserved for buses, in order to avoid traffic.

It is then up to the local authorities to authorize access to these routes on a case-by-case basis, according to the mobility orientation law passed at the end of 2019.

This provision already applied to electric cars and vans (less than 3.5 tonnes): it is now extended to two-wheelers, three-wheelers and quadricycles (quads, carts) powered by electric, hydrogen or compressed air motors. .

“Privileged” traffic conditions

According to a decree published in the Official Journal on November 20, amending the Environmental Code, these are now considered as “very low emission vehicles” (VTFE) and “may in particular benefit from privileged traffic and parking conditions. ".

Equipped with the "Crit'air" sticker, these vehicles could now circulate "on the lanes reserved for the circulation of public transport vehicles, taxis and carpooling vehicles", specifies the site.

Access to reserved lanes is considered by supporters of electric mobility as a major accelerator in convincing urban dwellers to convert to them, accompanied by fiscal measures or free parking.

Oslo as an example

The cities hesitate.

The access of electric cars to the bus routes of Oslo, the capital of Norway, is often cited as an example, the country having become a world leader in this field.

The measure has also been adopted on certain bus routes in Dortmund or Düsseldorf, Germany.

The self-service two-wheeler operator Cityscoot is requesting it in Paris, based on a study published in 2020 which recommends experimentation on certain routes.

In London, the public transport network has opposed the arrival of electric cars on its tracks, fearing a slowdown in buses.

Motorized two-wheelers are however welcome on certain reserved lanes.

Geneva tested the opening of these lanes to motorcyclists and finally opposed it after noticing too much speeding and slowing down of buses.
