The World Health Organization (WHO) is sending a commission of experts to China to further research the origin of the coronavirus.

For Germany, Fabian Leendertz, an employee of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), is participating in the project.

For virologist Christian Drosten, the list of participants initially caused irritation.

Drosten wrote on Twitter: “Many scientists would have liked to contribute to this mission.

I wonder how this list of the selected came about. "The WHO told the" Spiegel "now that there had been a call on the website of the WHO Global Outbreak Alert and Response Networks (GOARN).

This was sent to all members, whereupon 38 volunteers reported.

In the end, the health organization selected ten researchers.

Drosten responded on Twitter: “What a shame that I missed this call.” Drosten is considered the world's leading expert in the field of coronaviruses.

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, meanwhile, again appealed to wealthy countries to regard vaccinations as a global good.

The pandemic can only be fought sustainably if there is enough money for a worldwide fair distribution of the vaccine and funds for the formation of medical infrastructure.
