  • A petition has been launched to help Lydia Veyrat stay in France.

  • This 37-year-old caregiver, of Beninese origin, is threatened with deportation.

  • She has been working for a year and a half in an nursing home in Isère and was on the front line during the two waves of coronavirus, recall her colleagues at the origin of the petition.

The mobilization is organized around Lydia Veyrat.

This 37-year-old caregiver of Beninese origin, who has been working in a nursing home in Pontcharra in Isère for a year and a half, is now threatened with expulsion.

An aberration for those who support it.

They launched a petition to recall that the 30-something, strongly involved during the health crisis, had received the Covid bonus.

And that she had been "exposed on the front lines".

Lydia Veyrat arrived in France after the death of her husband, a Savoyard engineer with whom she lived in Benin.

She moved to Savoy to settle her husband's estate.

In the meantime, the nurse had obtained a CDD in the nursing home in July 2019 before it was transformed into a CDI three months later.

"Bad integration"

"As the procedures take time, and as her nursing diploma is not recognized in France, she works as a nursing assistant", explains Sonia Bobin, her colleague at the origin of the petition.

“She is appreciated by all, she is devoted to her patients.

She was one of those who were applauded at 8 p.m. yet she received an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF) on the grounds of poor integration into French society, ”she continues.

The prefecture of Savoie initially refused to renew his residence permit before inviting him to leave the territory.

His appeal lodged with the Grenoble administrative court was rejected on Monday.

“The nursing home in which she works has certified in writing that they need her, underlines Didier Besson, her lawyer interviewed by AFP.

The prefect told the court that he did not know all the elements of the case, but he did not say either that he was going to review his case ”.

The lawyer therefore decided to seize the Minister of the Interior and appeal the court's decision.

"She didn't miss a single day, she even worked overtime"

“It is an incomprehensible situation.

She speaks perfect French.

His in-laws are here.

His friends too.

She is a model employee.

During the first and second waves of the coronavirus, we were understaffed.

Lydia did not miss a single day and even worked overtime, ”says one of her supervisors.

LR president of Isère Jean-Pierre Barbier also wrote a letter to the Prefecture of Savoir to support the nursing aid, while the department launched a call for volunteers to strengthen its nursing homes in difficulty.
