The collective opposed to the proposed law "Global security" denounced this Thursday the ban by the prefecture of a "march of freedoms" scheduled for Saturday in Paris, the journalists' unions boycotting in response an invitation from the Prime Minister to meet them .

The parade planned for the Republic on Saturday in Bastille was banned to avoid in particular the spread of the coronavirus, according to the prefectural decree consulted by AFP, which however authorizes a gathering on the Place de la République.

The SNJ, the first journalists' union, evokes a process "unacceptable, while marches are authorized in other cities in France".

"We will go and we will march to defend" "freedom"

The “Stop Global Security Law” coordination, of which he is part alongside other trade unions in the profession, but also NGOs and associations such as the Human Rights League (LDH), has however decided to maintain this march and explained it in a letter to the Paris police prefect, Didier Lallement.

“We will go and we will march to defend” “freedom”, because “the world is watching us”, the signatories wrote to him, aware of the “risks” incurred after the “blows” received on Monday by journalists and demonstrators during the event. muscular evacuation of a migrant camp, Place de la République.

But "we will not surrender" to "the invitation of the Prime Minister", who was to receive representatives of the press this Thursday at 5 pm, three days after the failure of discussions with the Minister of the Interior Gerald Darmanin .

The march is not the only reason for the boycott of the unions

Contacted by AFP, the general secretary of the SNJ, Dominique Pradalié, clarified that the ban on walking was not the only reason for the boycott of the unions.

According to her, Matignon refuses to receive members of the coordination representing citizens such as the LDH.

This amounts to "isolating journalists while we are not fighting for journalists but for the right to inform and to be informed", she explained.

The “Global Security” bill and its controversial article 24, which aims to penalize the malicious dissemination of the image of police officers, was adopted at first reading in the National Assembly on Tuesday, before its consideration in the Senate.

The mobilization against the text, however, continues to grow: Wednesday, the Council of journalistic ethics and mediation (CDJM) in turn demanded the withdrawal of article 24, citing "serious threats to the freedom to inform".
