The President of the Republic had said Tuesday evening, cinemas, theaters and museums may, depending on the health situation, reopen on December 15 by following a strict health protocol and by complying with the curfew.

This was confirmed by Jean Castex at a press conference on Thursday.

However, film professionals would like to be able to extend screenings a little after 9 p.m.

Cinemas, theaters and museums may reopen on December 15 if the health situation continues to improve, Prime Minister Jean Castex confirmed on Thursday at a press conference which detailed Emmanuel Macron's announcements on Tuesday. evening.

A curfew will still be implemented from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. during this lightened confinement, but tickets can be used as proof when the show ends after this deadline.

The general delegate of the National Federation of French Cinemas, Marc-Olivier Sebbag, reacted to these announcements at the microphone of Patrick Cohen, Thursday, on Europe 1.

A symbolic session

"We are very happy to open, we are very happy to offer the French to come back to the cinema, to come back to the theater", he declared.

However, he still expressed a demand from the cinema sector: "to recreate the 8 pm screening".

"The system of returning home after 9 p.m., we think it is a bit below what Emmanuel Macron had suggested. As we reopen in three weeks, we will do everything to expand things and to propose a real 8 pm session for the French, ”he explained.

For him, the 20-hour session is symbolic: "it's the real cinema session where you go with family or friends".

And it is even more so during the coronavirus crisis.

"Even if it will not be with normal conditions since there will be a sanitary protocol and a curfew, in this winter moment when night falls early, it is important that the signs of the cinemas can illuminate the cities, illuminate the villages and that people gradually regain a taste for culture, a taste for entertainment outside their home, "he detailed.

"We are confident"

On the bill, it is as if time had frozen: the same films as before the confinement will be offered, but not only.

"We tried to find a balance between continuing to offer films that were there and new films," he explains.

And Marc-Olivier Sebbag expects many spectators on December 15.

“When we closed, the films gathered a lot of spectators because it was the All Saints holidays, but also because there were so many different films, there was something for everyone. This is what we are confident: the spectators came, they saw that it was easy to go to the cinema that we wore the mask and that there was physical distancing in the room and that it was going well " , confided the general delegate of the National Federation of French Cinemas.
