SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach has expressed doubts about the effectiveness of the corona measures adopted.

“It is actually risky that we are loosening the restrictions for Christmas and New Year's Eve,” Lauterbach told the newspapers of the Funke media group.

It cannot be ruled out that Christmas and New Year's Eve will become a “kick starter for the pandemic”.

Everything depends on how sensible the population behaves.

Lauterbach admitted that stricter rules for the holidays might not be accepted by the population.

Resistance to the restrictions is growing every day, he said.

However, if there is no significant reduction in the number of infections in the coming weeks, “we have to discuss whether the easing can actually apply for the entire period between Christmas and New Year”.

The head of the teachers' association, Heinz-Peter Meidinger, has criticized the corona resolutions by the federal and state governments as not being far enough and called for a stricter mask requirement.

In principle, it was to be welcomed that “at least a minimum consensus had been reached on tightening hygiene protection measures,” said Meidinger of the “Rheinische Post”.

However, the association would have advocated the compulsory mask in the classroom from the 5th grade and, if the incidence is high, also for primary school students, said Meidinger.

“We also welcome the fact that you can now organize alternating lessons in hotspot areas from year 8 upwards and thus reintroduce the distance rule.” However, the problem is that the implementation is only an optional rule and the incidence value of 200 is four times higher than Recommendation of the Robert Koch Institute lies.
