Family members of Ha Yi winter swimmer who lost contact after drowning agree to suspend rescue

News from our newspaper (Reporter Zhang Yuemeng) On the 21st, a winter swimming enthusiast in Harbin drowned and disappeared, and it has been 3 days.

On the 24th, a reporter from the Beijing Youth Daily learned from the Harbin Quick Rescue Diving Rescue Team that participated in the rescue. The search and rescue was temporarily suspended after consultation with the family due to the high risk of ice breaking.

At around 15:00 on the 21st, a winter swimming enthusiast lost contact after drowning at the triangular bubble near the head of the river north side of the Binzhou Railway Bridge in Songbei District, Harbin.

According to witnesses, the missing man is 48 years old this year and is a winter swimming enthusiast with good water quality.

At the time of the incident, the man was preparing to go ashore. His hands were already on the ice surface next to an ice hole, but the ice surface suddenly collapsed and the man fell into the water.

After falling into the water, the companion tried to knock the ice with a wooden stick, trying to guide the man back to the ice cave, but the missing man did not respond.

The search and rescue failed, and the family members contacted a professional rescue team for rescue that night.

Zhang Chenggang, the leader of the Harbin Rapid Rescue Diving and Rescue Team, who participated in the rescue, told the Beiqing Daily reporter that on the 21st, the waters were completely frozen because it was too late and the rescue conditions were not available. They started the rescue on the 22nd.

According to his introduction, the ice cave where the man fell into the water was about 30 meters away from the shore in a straight line, but the ice surface was rugged, and the rescue team descended 70 meters before reaching the scene.

Zhang Chenggang told the Beiqing Daily reporter that from 10 am to 5 pm on the 22nd, two diving team members took turns to search the water. They dived a dozen times and basically searched all the waters where the missing person might be, but they did not. Found missing persons.

The temperature in Harbin has dropped below freezing, and the cold weather has made rescue operations difficult. "Our team members were frozen up from under the water, and their hands and faces were frostbitten."

According to Zhang Chenggang, the analysis does not rule out that the lost contact drifts to deeper and deeper waters. If the rescue continues, the family members need to contact professional icebreakers to break the ice before the diving team can continue the search and rescue.

However, as the water surface has just frozen and the ice-breaking work has a high degree of danger, after discussing with the family, it is decided to suspend the rescue.

According to winter swimming enthusiasts with men, the man often winter swims here, and he will pierce holes in the ice.

Zhang Chenggang introduced that in recent years, there have been many cases of drowning in winter swimming at the place where the man was involved. Warning signs prohibiting wild swimming and fishing have also been erected on the shore.

"I still remind winter swimming enthusiasts to swim in professional venues to avoid accidents." Zhang Chenggang said.
