The ex-girlfriend of the late sex offender and millionaire Jeffrey Epstein has complained about her detention conditions in the United States.

Ghislaine Maxwell is being treated worse than convicted terrorists and murderers in Brooklyn prison, her lawyer Bobbi Sternheim said in court on Tuesday.

The 58-year-old is woken up every 15 minutes at night to see if she is still breathing.

She is practically in solitary confinement and is being intrusively and excessively controlled around the clock.

In doing so, she is neither mentally ill nor suicidal or criminal.

The British Maxwell is accused of having recruited at least three girls and young women and brought them to Epstein so that he could then offend them.

One of the girls is said to have only been 14 years old.

The cases go back to the years 1994 to 1997. When US President Donald Trump was approached in the summer about Maxwell, whom he had met “many times” in Florida, he only said that he wished her all the best.

Epstein had committed suicide in a New York prison cell in August 2019 before he could be tried on another case for sexually abusing girls in the early 2000s.

He was also accused of regularly organizing parties or sex orgies with celebrities and mostly underage girls on a private island in the Atlantic.

The public prosecutor initially did not respond to Sternheim's allegations.

The authority announced on Monday that Maxwell had been quarantined for 14 days because of a corona case in their area.

A first test was negative, a second is still pending.

Maxwell can view court materials on a laptop 13 hours a day to prepare for her trial.

That is more than with any other prisoner.

Sternheim, however, criticized the huge amount of material, which consists of more than a million documents.
